I want to apply to Medical Residency and Fellowship Training Programs in the US/Canada what are the requirements?
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Scholarship approval from Kuwait Institute for Medical Specialization (KIMS)
- Curriculum Vitae (CV) Contact information, education, professional experiences, medical rotations, certificates of completed programs, conferences etc.
- Personal Statement: At least one page essay stating the reason for the applicant’s interest in the program/ university, plans for the future, qualifications etc
- Official Results of Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination (MCCQE Part I) and/or United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE). Only official results on letterhead
- Subspecialty/Fellowship Applicants: Copy of Residency Board Certificate and/or Specialty Board Certificate
- Medical School Transcript of Grades (English copy and translation)
- Medical School Diploma (English copy and translation)
- Rotation/Internship Certificate
- 3 Letters of Reference (UPDATED): Letters have to be written in the past 2 years (has to be dated and on letterhead)
- IELTS/OET (required by University of Alberta, University of British Columbia, University of Calgary, Dalhousie University and University Manitoba English Language Proficiency Requirements
- Record of operations/logbook (UPDATED): Only for Surgery applicants
- Copy of your passport
When do the Universities start accepting applications?
Canadian universities start accepting applications from mid-May to the last week of August of each year, depending on the program and school. This changes for each program at each universities year by year.
Can I apply to residency programs without the Medical Council of Canada Evaluating Examination (MCCEE Part I)?
No, the Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination (MCCQE Part I) is a requirement by all Canadian Universities to apply to any Residency Training Program in Canada.
I want to apply to the U.S. Universities what examinations do I need to pass?

If I secured an admission on my own, what is the next step?
- Applicants have to submit their admission letters to KIMS/CSC for their approval.
- Once our office receives the approval from KIMS/CSC, we will confirm the admission and report it to KIMS/CSC..
- We will contact the University to confirm the admission.
- We will then send a financial support letter to the University on behalf of the physician

Application Process:
- Applicants who wish to apply to US Universities will need at least the USMLE 1 and 2CK by September 15
- Applicants who wish to apply to the Universities in the U.S. have to upload their application documents and submit their application through the ERAS starting September 15
- Applicants will need to have taken the USMLE 2CS by at least December 31 in order to receive the results in time for the MATCH
- Deadline for the MATCH November 30

Postgraduate Dentistry Application Required Documents
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Scholarship approval from Kuwait Institute for Medical Specialization (KIMS)/Kuwait Ministry of Health
- Curriculum Vitae (CV) Contact information, education, professional experiences, medical rotations, certificates of completed programs, conferences etc.
- Personal Statement: At least one page essay stating the reason for the applicant’s interest in the program/ university, plans for the future, qualifications etc
- Copy of National Dental Boards Part I and II
- Dental school transcript of grades (English copy and translation)
- Dental school diploma (English copy and translation)
- ECE Transcript Evaluation
- Internship certificate
- Three letters of recommendation (has to be written in the past 2 years) from a faculty member of an applicant's Dental School (preferably in their desired specialty).
- TOEFL/IELTS
- Copy of your passport

SCHOLARSHIP REQUESTS
[collapse collapsed title="Conference Eligibility Requirements" class="csc-collapse"]
The following is the procedure that you are required to follow if you wish to attend a conference related to your specialization:
- Provide us with a letter from your program director recommending your participation in the conference/ course. If you intend to take a course or attend a conference in another country, you are required to obtain advance approval from the Civil Service Commission through this office.
- Purchase your airline tickets in advance to avoid full fare charges. If you present a full fare airline ticket to this office for reimbursement you are required to submit a letter from the university confirming that you did not have sufficient time to make the necessary travel arrangements ahead of time.
- Submit the original copy of the conference/course fee receipts, as well as the airline ticket stubs to this office for reimbursement. Ticket invoices are not accepted.
- Fax and Xerox copies are not acceptable.
- Room and board charges are not reimbursable items.
- Please be advised that due to accounting policies we can only reimburse you for your registration and travel costs after you have attended the conference.

Medical residents are entitled to a one-time reimbursement for board certification fees only in the country where they are training. That is, residents in Canada will be reimbursed only for Royal College certification examinations fees and not for American Board, and vice versa.
Dentists: Successful completion of Part 1 of the American Board Certification Examination is a scholarship requirement for all dental specializations for except for the AEGD residents who are required to complete Part1 & 2 of the American Board of General Dentistry.

Your scholarship mission is renewed on an annual basis. Please provide us with the following documents to enable us to prepare a report on your behalf for your behalf to renew
your scholarship mission:
- Confirmation of your appointment to the next level of training.
- In-training evaluation reports for the current academic year.
- Advise us of the dates and/or the results of your residency-training program’s board/certification examinations.
- Dentists: Please provide this office with an official copy of your transcript of grades at the end of each academic term.

Medical residents who wish to take an “Elective Rotation” in Kuwait are entitled to receive their basic salary, allowance and other benefits in Kuwait, but their scholarship mission will be suspended and they will not receive stipends from this office if the rotation period is more than one (1) month in duration.Please provide the Cultural Division with the following information at least two months prior to the starting date of your elective rotations:
- Your letter of request;
- A letter from your program director approving your elective rotation, which should include the starting and ending dates of the rotation;
- A letter from the physician at a Kuwaiti hospital who would be supervising and evaluating your elective rotation.

If you wish to undertake sub-specialty or fellowship training upon completion of your residency training program, the following is the procedure:
- Submit a written request to this office confirming your sub-specialty or fellowship field, the starting date, and duration of the program.
- Confirm the date of your residency program’s certification/board examinations.
These documents must be submitted to this office at least 6 months before the start date of the program. Once we receive the above information, we will forward your request to Kuwait for their consideration and approval. Please note that we are unable to confirm your sponsorship status with the universities until we receive approval from Kuwait.
